Review: Johhny English Reborn out on DVD 13th Feb 2012

On Sunday all the family took a trip up to London as we had been invited by Universal Pictures UK to a private screening of Johnny English Reborn, ready for its DVD release on 13th February 2012. As dh and I struggled to get out of bed the kids were bouncing about at the fact they were heading for the train, a London bus and to see Mr Bean (or Rowan Atkinson as us adults perhaps know him better).

We had a lovely day, it is always wonderful to spend family time together and I really enjoy trips to the cinema, even though my 4 year olds act as if they have ants in their pants and spill their popcorn everywhere!  Ohh the shame, it was such a glamorous cinema when the film started.

So what did we think of the film?

We loved it, all 5 of us with an age range of 4 - 38 years.  The slapstick fun was superb, nothing too obscure just loads of fun scenes that had me roaring with real belly laughs.  It is so good for the soul to be able to chuckle. Whilst my 4 year old twin girls enjoyed the film I think perhaps they were a little young to get the most from it and I would suggest that 6 years upwards would be about the right age to get all the jokes and to understand the plot.  The kids were keen to tell you their views, so here is a short vlog from them -

Backing up our opinion that this is a great film are the opening box office figures.  When Johnny English Reborn aired at the cinema it set a new record for Rowan Atkinson with his biggest UK opening ever, taking an impressive £4.96 million over the opening weekend.

What actually is the film about?

Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson), the accidental secret agent who doesn't know fear or danger, returns in his latest adventure.

The most unlikely intelligence officer in Her Majesty's Secret Service must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier's life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. With one shot at redemption, Johnny English must employ the latest in hi-tech gadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7. With mere days until a heads of state conference, one man must use every trick in his playbook to protect us all.
