I'm exceptionally lucky to live in an amazing old stable cottage. It was built in the 18th century and you see from the outside how beautiful it is. Sadly inside it does not have any of that character and is a bit of a blank canvas. We've lived here for two years now and it was freshly painted for when we moved in and I tried to make it homely but interior design isn't really my thing. I now realise that having been busy working and concentrating on other things for the last few months I've let my bedroom become a bit of a mess - a right old dumping ground to be honest.
I realise I need to do something to get my bedroom back under control and actually I want to take it beyond that and make it a sumptuous space that my husband and I can really enjoy. I love to go to bed early and read as a way to chill before sleep but recently I've just been looking at the mess and stressing or staying up late to avoid it, neither are good for me.
Let me show you what I've done to get the room ship-shape and then I need your help and suggestions of what I can do to make it different. Here are the before pictures -
Tip, right? Washing everywhere, books on the floor, kids toys left in my room and put-up bed never put away since being used four months ago! whoops
So I had a really good tidy up and added in a few new items to make a difference and here it is right now -
Rubbish all cleared and put away, books stored in the wicker baskets, a good clean, fresh new bedding, some scatter cushions and most importantly divine new bedside lights from Lighting Majestic. I think they really frame the bed and make the room.
I have a thing about crystal, I think it looks so feminine and elegant and thus I just could not resist these Sora lamps by designer brand Diyas. The base I chose is polished chrome and crystal with a height of 33.5cm and then I added the Stella round shade 400mm (also by Diyas) and another 26.3cm in height. The lamp base retails for £65 and the shade for £21 and they are both fantastic quality, you can really tell they are not just a cheap copy.
The lamp base is sturdy but lightweight with a diameter of 9cm, meaning it dos not take up too much space on your bedside table. There is a transparent lead and plug attached and I've not seen this before, it is so much nicer than an opaque white or black one. The lamp has an inline on/off switch on the wire from the base which is easy to use.
Both the Sora lamp and the Stella lampshade are available in a range of sizes to suit all areas of your home - bedside tables, desks, console tables etc. I choose the Stella shade in ivory but it is also available in black and white and it is beautifully lined.
I was very impressed with the communication about my delivery from Lighting Majestic, Once the order was placed I received a confirmation email and then emails advising me when delivery would be and a one hour time slot that I needed to be available to sign for the parcel. The parcel itself was a large box with loads of air filed plastic (recyclable) packaging to ensure that that the lamps and shades arrived in perfect condition. I was very happy to see that deliveries to the UK mainland are free for orders over £50 too. Thank you Lighting Majestic, I'm a very happy customer and will be back again.
Let me show you a couple of the areas that have changed considerably (left is before and right after - of course!)
OK, so you have seen what I have done so far, what shall I do with my blank canvas? Paint that wall behind the bed - a statement colour? Or wallpaper maybe? Buy a nice coloured rug? I suppose I should think about some artwork other than pictures of my kids too.
I really am useless at this - help me people!
Thanks so much, Mich x
Disclosure: I received these lamps free of charge for the purpose of this review. I have not been instructed what to write and I remain honest.
