I have to admit that I get so frustrated when I head to the high street shops in Winter to buy one of the girls a new swimsuit and find there is nothing available. Maybe a plain 'school' navy swimsuit that is so dowdy it should be for the over 70's if we are lucky but certainly nothing my trendy 10 year old's would like to wear.
Girl's Swimwear
Neither of my girls like to wear bikinis, they both like a full suit but they are interested in them being comfortable, colourful and stylish. Thankfully online retailer Maru is able to help any time of the year. They have swimwear for men, women, girls and boys and offer both practical plain coloured swimwear suitable for school or lessons and also gorgeous brightly coloured suits to make swimming fun but not frivolous. Oh no, their swimwear is created for the serious swimmer who needs their suit to stay in place and not distract from the speed or stroke of their swimming.
Maru asked if my kids would like to sample some of their swimwear and as soon as I showed my girls the website they said yes straightaway as the designs are really gorgeous and there are loads that have sparkly detailing, just look at that star pattern above, isn't it lovely?
There is a large selection of designs with various back types - rave, auto and fly. They also have racewear and legsuits available if that if what your daughter prefers.
My girls both choose a fly back suit, which has thin straps. We went for a 32" for Miss E, which they say is suitable for age 14-15 years or a girl up to height 164cm but Miss E who is slim and only 10 years old but tall at around 155cm found it a pretty snug fit and we sized up to a 34" for her.
Miss M also had a 34" suit and she is a little bigger and taller than Miss E but it still fit her OK.
I love that the Maru suits are quality crafted, the fronts are lined with a contrasting colour, like the pink below and all the stitching is neat and precise.
The Starlight fly back swimsuit retails at £28.79 and is part of the new season collection, it is available in sizes 22" to 34" in the Junior collection.
The Puzzled Hearts Sparkle fly back is in the clearance sale currently and that means it is available for the bargain price of £14.39. In fact the clearance section is pretty big and worth a look if you need a new swim costume for anyone in your family, so the suits are excellent and the prices super reasonable.
Both swimsuits we received are made from Xtra Life lycra, which is 82% polyester and 18% elastane. it is 100% chlorine resistant and UPF 50+.
Men's Swimwear
My son also received a pair of swim shorts but instead of choosing a funky design like the girls did, he went for a pair of 16" tactile shorts from the essentials collection (those on the right above). These retail for just £16.99 and are available in sizes Small - XXL and red, black, navy and bright blue.
They are beautifully soft to the touch, are mesh lined, have drain holes to avoid ballooning, are made from anti-rip, quick drying fabric and have a drawstring waist. JJ thinks they are just perfect for a teenager like him who only swims for leisure and mostly wears them on holiday.
Women's Swimwear
I've spotted a swimsuit I like as well and that's a bit of a miracle as I'm super fussy. As a larger lady, I like a plain black swimsuit with built in tummy control, low leg and a bit of bust support. The legacy Scoop back matches my specification perfectly and I don't mind the £41.49 price tag as I know it will last me years and not get all thin and worn away by chlorine and sea-water like past swimsuits of mine have done.
