Making Savings with my 1066 Card in East Sussex

A post shared by Town City Cards (@1066card) on

Previously the TownCityCard was known for the towns it served, so it was the Hastings Card, Battle Card, Hailsham Card etc but now all the cards for all the different areas are coming under the unified name of the 1066 Card. This is a really good thing as it will alleviate any confusion and mean that you, as the customer will be able to tap in to discounts at over 360 places across East Sussex and in to Kent.

I've had my card for a couple of years now and the hardest thing for me is remembering to use it. I often purchase my items and then afterwards realise I should have got my 1066 card out of my purse! So don't be like me, make sure you present your card with everything you purchase in local shops, restaurants, cafes, takeaways and days out venues. Even if that venue doesn't take the card at that point, ask them if they want to, as I know Chris, whose business it is, is always keen to meet new interested local businesses and to bring them on board.

I love the idea of shopping local and not just putting money in the pockets of the big chain stores and this is what the 1066 card is all about. You can purchase your own card from loads of local shops, council offices and the tourist office in Hastings but probably the easiest way to get it right now is to buy it direct from the website and it will arrive promptly in the post. Mine came within a couple of days. The cost is just £9.99 and it lasts until the end of the year.

If you want to know where you can access the discounts you can check on the website but the best thing to do is to download the free app for both iOS and Android and then you can search by area or type of business and at the end of the day save money

I thought I'd share with you my top 6 places to use my 1066 card discount:

1. Clambers Soft Play - Hastings (£1.50 off child admission)

Clambers soft play is great fun for kids of all ages. Its a large, clean soft play centre with fun slides, nets, ball pits and loads more. There is a decent cafe and loads of seating for the adults.

2.  Cinnamon Spice Indian Restaurant - St Leonards (2 for 1 on starters and main courses, every day)
This discount is such an awesome one, as it means that when two of you eat there you end up with a meal for nearly half price and the food is so good.

3.  Knockhatch - Hailsham (25% off standard entrance fees)
If a few of you are going, using your 1066 card here can cover the cost of the card in one visit as this is a fabulous discount. There is so much to do at Knockhatch that it is easy to spend the whole day there, seeing the animals, playing in soft play, riding the tractor and carousel, taking a boat ride, enjoying the water slide and so much more.

4.  Scolfes Tea Shoppe - Boreham Street (Free drink with a meal)
I love to have a delicious savoury tea or maybe a slice of cake and a latte at the quaint little tea shoppe. I can highly recommend their flat white coffee and homemade rocky road. It is a great place to read my book and relax.

5.  Bebble's Langos - Hailsham (Free drink with your meal)
Langos are Hungarian street food and they are like a fried pizza, which sounds a bit gross but its not at all. They do amazing sweet versions with toppings like banoffee or chocolate and are a firm favourite with my kids.

6.  The Crafty Norman - Battle (10% off any time)
This is such an awesome shop run by Helen and Paul. You can buy craft supplies, cards, teddies and a whole assortment of quality novelties, as well as changing your cash for foreign currency.

These are just a few of the hundreds of places you can use your 1066 card and I think you can see how easy it is for the discounts to start adding up, so the £9.99 initial outlay repays itself in no time at all.

Also, I must mention if you are local and have a pool of people you think might want to buy a card, you can buy them in bulk from Chris and he'll do you a very good deal on the price and then you can make the money on the cards you sell. So for example, if you help to run a PTA, you can sell the cards direct to your parents and make around £4-5 on each card. It's win:win - you make money for the school and the parents will save money on all the kinds of places they'll be using on a regular basis anyway.

So what do you think?  Does it sound good?

Why not pin this post for later?
