If you’re looking to book a winter sun holiday with your
family - or looking into options for the
Easter break, or even next year’s summer holiday -
then you might have thought about going to Greece. The gorgeous weather and
fantastic food are just two reasons that may persuade you to pick this country,
but it has so much more to offer.
Kefalonia is one of the many great places to go. It’s the
largest of the Ionian Islands in the west of
Greece, and offers couples and families many things to do together. Here are some
suggestions you may want to think about when booking your Grecian escape -
What to see
If you’re looking for a beach holiday in Greece, then you’ve
come to the right place. Not only are there many white sandy spots to sit on,
but the beautiful blue sea is a gorgeous, inviting enigma with plenty of
surprises within. Myrtos, on the north-west coast of the Kefalonia,
is considered to be one of the top 30 beaches in the world.
You don’t have to just sit on the beach, though, because
there are many things you can do in the sea, or
explore on the coast. If you or your children are interested in animals, then
you could go to Argostoli Bay to see the wild loggerhead turtles lay their eggs, or
even take a cruise on a glass-bottomed boat. There are many caves, lakes and
other water-based activities you can discover as well.
Where to stay
There are many towns and villages from which you can choose,
depending on what you want to experience during your stay on the island. You may want to think about villas in Kefalonia Greece when booking your stay on the island, especially if you
have children with you. A villa will give you more options regarding the
facilities you may need to enjoy your time away.
Popular places to stay on Kefalonia include Trapezaki, which
lets you escape from the hustle and bustle of life; Skala, a beautiful seaside
resort with stunning beaches to explore; and the picturesque village of
Svoronata which offers breath-taking views, and is an ideal place to base
yourselves if you want to explore the local area.

What to eat
Food is a great way of getting to know the local culture -
and to create lasting memories together. If you find a particularly delicious
dish, you could even make it when you’re back home so that your family can
fondly remember the holiday you shared.
One of the dishes you may come across in the local
restaurants of Kefalonia is Kefallonitiki kreatopita. This meat pie is often
made from lamb and veal; it’s rich with spices and comes packed with flavour
and vegetables. Chicken tserepa is another favourite that you must try. It’s
made with marinated chicken and cooked in a clay pot over charcoal with tomato
sauce, lemon juice, wine and potatoes.
This is a just a taste of what you can do when visiting
Kefalonia. There are many different ways you can make memories together that you
will cherish for years to come.
