Capturing those Treasured Family Moments

{This is a collaborative post}

When you become a parent a really special thing happens, your heart expands and you are able to love another person as much as your spouse. Everything about that small person who has joined your family captivates you and you feel compelled to store up the memories for a rainy day. Even if you've never been the kind of person to take lots of photos or videos before, I can guarantee that will change when you become a parent.

Luckily in this day and age, it is very easy to capture all the precious moments and memories. Here are a few ideas on how to capture all those little times that you don't want to forget.

Blogging/ Instagram

My blog was born in 2008 when my twin girls were a few months old and I wanted to share photos and the things we had been up to with family and friends that live quite a distance. Little did I know quite how much this hobby would grow. Nowadays many people are more likely to share on social media in the form of a microblog, on sites like Instagram or Facebook as it is far less time-intensive than a traditional blog.

Photoshoot - whether professional or DIY

Good quality cameras have really come down in price in recent years and they all have automatic mode nowadays which means almost anybody can take a good photo. Arm yourself with a beautiful painted background and set up in a room with great light and have fun. The best photoshoots of children are the ones where the kids are acting naturally and having fun, so your own home can be the perfect setting,

Create an online photo album

There are lots of great websites and apps now where you can create a digital photo album to share with your loved ones. Last year, each month I uploaded my photos into the Neveo app and then at the end of the month, a photo book was printed and sent to my parents to enjoy. I really loved doing this and it was so easy.

Create a memory box or scrapbook

If you are someone who is crafty and enjoys making things then printing off photos and collecting momentoes to go into a memory box or scrapbook might be a fun thing to do. I love making cards, so the idea of scrapbooking really appeals to me, but in reality, I have never got around to it yet, so I don't think it will be a big feature of my parenting journey! lol

Write yearly letters to your kids

I love the idea of writing a letter to each child, perhaps on their birthday to remind them of what went on in the last year and to encourage them and congratulate them on how they have grown and changed. These letters can be kept and handed over on their 16th, 18th or 21st birthday and it is lovely to look back together on all those wonderful memories created.

So how about you? Have you tried any of these ideas for capturing your families memories, or do you do something different?
