Home renovations don’t have to require enormous changes to make a difference to yoru everyday lifestyle and you certainly don’t need to break the bank to craft the space of your dreams.

It’s natural to tire of the same old design choices after a while, and wanting to mix things up is the next step. Have a read of these six simple design tips if you want a home straight from the pages of a luxury magazine -

1)     Polish Up Your Paint Job

A fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference. A new colour will leave your rooms looking fresh and revitalised.

Light, neutral tones are a classic design move that never goes out of style and light colours limit the number of hard lines that will divide your spaces. On the other hand, if you’re feeling bold, bright colours can go a long way to liven up the room.

Something as simple as painting might seem like a small change, but it can really help to make a room look much larger and more modern.

2)     Fun Feature Walls

Feature walls are a great way to add a splash of colour to brighten up a room, and it’s far less effort and commitment than painting a whole room.

However, if you don’t feel like painting, then Rebel Walls are an excellent source for wallpaper murals to create the perfect feature wall to suit any aesthetic! All the look without the elbow grease.

3)     Magic of Mirrors

Mirrors look great in every part of the home, and work wonders in smaller rooms as they make a space look much bigger. For a unique twist, shop around for something antique and make it one of the room’s defining features.

It's not something you see every day but a gallery wall of mirrors can also look really effective too. Shop around the charity shops, salvage yards and antique dealerships and you'll come across a miss-match of smaller mirrors that can work well when grouped together on a large wall space.

4)     Change Your Internal Doors

You probably don’t give your internal doors much thought but upgrading them up is a subtle change that can make a surprising difference.

Depending on the colour and style you choose, you can drastically alter the look of your room, or even your whole house. White doors will make a space brighter, whereas woody tones such as those from the experts at Oakwood Doors will give your room a more rustic vibe.

5)     Raise the Roof

Of course, we aren’t suggesting that you literally make your ceilings higher. But it is possible to trick the eye into seeing high ceilings even in small rooms. Simply adorn your windows with a set of floor-to-ceiling drapes. Find curtain colours that will complement the rest of your décor and try experimenting with textures to enhance the look of the space.

The way you dress your window can make the world of difference to your room and the light that it allows into the room too.

6)     Think About the Flooring

Carpets are of course cosy in those winter months, but they’re a lot harder to keep clean – especially if you have children and pets running around. Whereas, hardwood floors can be expensive, so laminate and vinyl are great alternatives. Not only do they look just as good as the real thing, but they’re hard-wearing and much better for the budget too!

Upgrading your home design can be an exciting project to take on, and it’s often a lot simpler than you might think to achieve those all-important improvements! Just start small and work your way up to the bigger jobs, or if you're really not sure what you are doing call in the experts.
