Ideas for an Adventure Seeking Holiday in the Caribbean

If you're a regular thrill seeker, you have probably been there and done that with most of the adventure activities in Europe, so now may be the perfect time to spread your wings, or find your sea legs to be more accurate and head out to the Caribbean for a luxury cruise of multiple islands.

There is so much adventure to be pursued in the Caribbean, all amongst the absolute beauty of the white sandy beaches and deep turquoise waters. I want to share with you a few ideas for amazing cruise holidays with bags of adventure thrown in.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is the second-best cruise line for mega-ships (with over 4000 passengers) as voted by the readers of Conde Nast, so you know you can't go wrong when you choose to cruise with them. Their liners cater to all kinds of travellers but Cruise Critic suggests they are particularly good for first-time family cruisers with their ultimate family suites having in-room slides, table tennis, life-size Connect-four, and a personal gaming room. That all sounds pretty darn fun to me. Add to that the SeaPlex, which is the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea, with attractions ranging from roller skating and video gaming to a circus school, complete with flying trapeze classes.

You can sail for as little as two nights, but for a full quota of thrills and fun, around nine nights is perfect and then you can choose to travel across the western, southern, or eastern Caribbean. The choice really is yours!

Sailing with Royal Caribbean also means you get to stop at CocoCay, a private island in the Bahamas and there is so much to do there. You could experience the island from 450 meters in the air as you take a balloon ride, enjoy the thrills of the waterpark, which boosts Daredevil's Peak, the tallest slide in North America, or even zipline across the blue, blue sky.

Princess Cruises

Another great cruise provider is Princess Cruises which offers excellent value for money and has something for everyone. With their Rhythm of the Caribbean program, you experience the feel and authenticity of the islands from the moment you step on board.

Like Royal Caribbean they also have their own private island for you to enjoy as part of their cruise: you may want to enjoy a spot of fishing on the rocky coast of Princess Cays or paddle through the lagoon in a clear-bottom kayak and feed the stingrays. You will not be short on a choice of amazing activities when you cruise with Princess Cruises.

I personally fancy the 10-Day Eastern Caribbean with Tortola cruise, which has so many appealing stops like -

  • St Thomas in the Virgin Islands where you can the Virgin Island’s National Park to discover the wonders of snorkeling with sea turtles.
  • St Maartan, which is perfect for a jet ski tour, and don't forget your Go-Pro to get the best action shots as you enjoy the high-speed thrills.
  • Antinga has loads of great adventure trips on offer and can offer you a rough-road jeep or buggy tour, or maybe you'd prefer to zip-wire through the tropical forest.
  • Parasailing in St Kitts will offer you amazing views and the chance to feel the wind in your hair as you fly along at 600ft.
  • Then when you reach Tortola it is time for a jeep safari and exploration of some of the best beaches and snorkelling with amazing tropical fish.
If you choose to head to the Caribbean for a cruise and adventure holiday you definitely won't be disappointed as there is so much to see and do. Even activities like ziplining, which can feel a bit mainstream in the UK elevate to a different level when you are above the natural beauty of a Caribbean island.
